Indiana State University’s Board of Trustees has nine members appointed by the Governor of Indiana. Each member helps to guide and support Indiana State’s mission, strategic goals, and initiatives while collaborating with the University President and administration.

About Indiana State’s Board of Trustees

The Indiana State University Board of Trustees has nine members appointed by the Governor of Indiana. Two of these trustees are nominated by the Indiana State University Alumni Association, six are at-large positions, and a student representative is nominated through submissions by a Student Government Association search committee.

All appointments are for a period of four years except for the student trustee, who serves two years. Terms begin on July 1 of the year the appointment is effective. The Governor fills Board vacancies by appointment for unexpired terms.

The Faculty Senate is a group of 34 elected faculty members who focus on the success of faculty under the current administrative leadership. Each Faculty Senate meeting has agendas, minutes, and other documents that may be shared with the campus community.

The Staff Council is an advisory body representing the staff at Indiana State. Members advocate for staff while consistently striving to enhance the working environment for staff within Indiana State.

The Office of Legal Services provides legal representation, advice, and counsel for Indiana State University, the Board of Trustees, the President, university leaders, and administrative units. Joyce D. Thompson-Mills serves as the Executive Director of Legal Services.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is an agency that works closely with Indiana’s public and independent colleges to define the educational missions of public colleges and universities, including Indiana State University. The Commission reviews operating budget and capital budget requests, approves new degree and program offerings, and distributes student financial aid from state programs, among other functions.
